This is a classic picture of me, Rob Barron, and Ashwini Bhat from the Woodfire Tas conference in 2011. We were all a party of the Bauhaus Punjab kiln building team were we dug clay, made pots, cut wood, built a kiln, fired the pots, cooked a meal on the kiln and served the food to the judges in the pots from the kiln, all in the course of 6 hours. I was the kiln builder, Ahwini was the chef, and Rob was the waitress. We dressed him up in a sari and put a wig on him and named him Ruby. Rob loved it and wore the costume late into the night and long past his waiting duties were over. #community #woodfire #adventure

Wrapping up a great visit with Rob Barron down at Gooseneck pottery in Kardella, Australia. Rob was one of my early pottery heroes when I was just starting out. His work and the absolutely massive Noborigama kiln that he built were featured in all the early books about wood firing and I remember reading about Rob and idolizing his set up as a young potter. It’s been a great experience developing a true friendship with Rob over the past 8 years since we first met at the Flagstaff conference. Our paths have crossed many times since then and it’s been really rewarding to see our relationship evolve from someone you just read about to knowing Rob as a friend, mentor, and peer in the wood firing community. Looking forward to the next time we meet. Always ready to take down the Elk young buddy. #adventure #ceramics #community #robbarron #gooseneckpottery #woodfire #woodkiln #potterytour

Ian Jones and Moraig McKenna’s pottery, home and gallery, Old Saint Lukes Studio in Gunderoo, Australia. The gallery and part of their home is actually an old stone church, and one of the oldest in Australia. After it was largely destroyed in a fire in 2011, they have rebuilt it better than before. It’s truly a magical place and one that I am fortunate to be calling home for a day or so during my Australian travels.
