I’m excited for the start of the new kickball season and stoked to get the Crystal Ballers back together. No matter how busy things get in the studio and in life it’s important to take the time to be a little ridiculous, play sports, a drink some beers with friends. #crystalballers #adultkickball #community #lifestyle

Introducing Gabs Wallington, an amazing young Australian maker, my new studio assistant, and the newest bartender at the Wedge Brewing Company. I met Gabs at the On the Edge of the Shelf International Wood this past spring and she was keen to come spend a year working and learning ceramics in the states. It’s my first time taking on a full time assistant, so it’s a big step for me and responsibility of taking a young maker on is something I take very seriously. I could not have asked for a better person than Gabs. We have hit the ground running in the studio since she arrived. I fully expected her to need a couple of days the rest and get acclimated after her journey, but she would not have it. In her own words after I suggested she might take the first couple days off from the studio “Josh, I came here to work, not to put socks on caterpillars” which I guess is an Australian phrase for not messing about. Gabs certainly not here to mess around. #ceramics #australianstudioassistant #pottery #clay #woodfire #ontheedgeoftheshelf

My show Response to Place opens at the Crimson Laurel Gallery tonight at 6pm featuring the work I made during my recent trip to Australia. I managed to haul about 250 pounds of work back to the states and everything except the few keepers is in the show. It would be great to see everyone at the opening but if you can’t make it check the show out online at crimsonlaurelgallery.com #workfromaustralia #ceramics #woodfire #placemaking #joshcopus #crimsonlaurelgallery

Doing inventory and titles for all my Australian work for my August show @crimsonlaurelgallery today and remembering the crazy firing we had at the On the Edge of the Shelf Conference. After two months I’m realizing that the work that came out of that kiln is by far the wildest and most exciting work I made in Australia. Woodfiring often defies logic and the best gems can come out of the darkest places sometimes. #ceramics #woodfire #woodkiln #pottery #kiln
