The kiln is unloaded and we are cleaning pots and gearing up for Saturday! Dear friends of Ben and Peta at Ridgeline Pottery and supporters of pottery, We would like to invite you to a kiln opening sale and open studio event to celebrate the culmination of the SWIPE residency program on Saturday, the 26th from 1-5. Dustin and I have been working hard towards this moment for the past 4 weeks. The clay has been dug, wood chopped, pots made, and the kiln loaded. After 42 hours of continuos firing and 3 days of waiting for the kiln to cool, we unloaded yesterday and the pots look fantastic. They are the products of our labours and experiences here in Tasmania and we would like share them with you. Please consider joining us for this great opportunity to meet the makers, learn about the creative process that inspired the work, and hear some stories from our adventures here in Tasmania. All the best, Josh Copus

Kiln is lite and the firing has begun. I’m filled with usual sense of hope and optimism for the contents. I made what I would consider to be a exciting batch of work for this burn, full of new materials, ideas, and techniques. All will be revealed in 4 days time. #ceramics #tasmania #joshcopus #adventure #australia @ridgelinepottery

Loading the kiln today in advance of next weekends event to celebrate the culmination of my residency in Tasmania. As some of you may know, we have been hosting the inaugural SWIPE residency (Slow Working Institute of Pragmatic Expressionism). The first recipient, Josh Copus, http://joshcopus.com has been with us from the end of March, along with his good friend and fellow Potter, Dustin Fowler, http://dustinfowler.com. Both boys come from Asheville in North Carolina, a hot spot of young American Woodfirers. While here they have been working hard towards this weekend. With Ben’s mentorship they have made their clay from local materials, chopped the wood from our property, and made their pots. As I write this they are packing the Comet our small woodfired kiln and will start the firing slowly on Sunday morning. We invite you to come for a visit between 10 and 4 on Monday. The firing will be reaching it’s conclusion and it’s a great time to see what woodfiring is all about. The following Saturday the 26th we will be open to the public between 1-5 for the KILN OPENING SALE . This sale will help fund the rest of the boy’s visit to Australia. Both Josh and Dustin travel on from here to the On The Edge of The Shelf International Woodfiring Conference in NSW, where Josh will be presenting. Come and join us. Meet Josh and Dustin and experience a little of what Ben and I along with Josh and Dustin are passionate about. 1466 South Arm Road, Sandford Tasmania 7020 Australia Peta Richardson m. 0439 335 932 www.ridgelinepottery.com.au http://www.facebook.com/RidgelinePottery
