Stripped down and taken back to the bones.
Our favorite room in the jail.
I’ve been working on the jail this week and the initial round of demolition is starting to come to and stopping point. All the bullshit and bad design choices of the 70’s are gone. Goodbye linoleum. See you never again wood paneling. Adios to all the drop ceiling.
The bones of this building are made out of things I love. Bricks. Concrete. Metal.
It’s good to see them revealed.
Also we started an gram account specifically for the jail so check it out if you interested in what we are doing and what to see more of the progress. @oldmarshalljail

I first came to Penland School of Crafts as a work study student 16 years ago.
I had know about it for a number of years before then, and had always wanted to go there. It always sounded like such a magical place to me (because it actually is). Over the years I’ve been back countless times, as a student, studio assistant, visitor and friend. It’s been such an important place in my life.
It was a huge honor to finally be a teacher there. It’s been a goal of mine for a long time.
It was especially amazing to teach alongside my dear friend Ben Richardson and to have our friends Kevin and Herve teaching downstairs. And especially to have such amazing students and assistants.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE IT SUCH AN AWESOME TIME. AND ESPECIALLY THANK YOU TO @penlandschool FOR HAVING ME.
Let’s do it again sometime.

A special moment from our end of class award ceremony was presenting a community brick to @shin3kibou for his honorable work as a cultural ambassador for his native Japan.
Nozomu came from Shigaraki Japan as a part of a cultural exchange program with @penlandschool and @haystack_school
It was a true honor to have such an amazing potter and great human being in our class.
A great way to finish an incredible two weeks.
