I love the clay community.
I’m on the long drive home thinking about all the people I saw this week who I totally love. All the people that I’ve known for years and all the people I just met. It’s all about the people.
When I go to NCECA I don’t really got to any talks and I don’t make it to see many of the shows…I basically just walk around a talk to people, and go to eat and drink with people, which is really just a opportunity to talk to the more.
I usually lose my voice by the end of it all from talking so much. This year was no different.
I especially love @artistpotter and @warrenfrederick
I think this photo shows that. We talked about Tasmania a lot @ridgelinepottery

Free Josh Copus workshop in Charlotte! The February teaching tour continues with a trip down to Queens University of Charlotte on the 26th and 27th.
This is free and open to the public. Come on out and say hello.
We will be demonstrating some pottery techniques and I’ll be bringing the brick factory.
Should be a great time for all.

Just wrapped up a great 2 day workshop and lecture at Florida State College in Jacksonville. Thanks to @cottrellart for inviting me and Liz and all the folks for treating me so well. It’s been a blast.
Thanks to @trevortdunn and @stephenheywood and all the students from UNF for hanging.
I went surfing, collected shells, and toured the awesome facilities at UNF and FSCJ.
It’s happening down in Jacksonville!
It’s been real Florida, thanks for warming me up, but it’s time to hightail it back to my mountains.

Winter is a good time for reflection.
A time to put things in order. A time to remember where we’ve come from and prepare for what is yet to come.
This is a photo from my first winter on the land. This same time of year… but ten years prior.
After the Temple kiln was built but before so many other things were built. Before the studio, the landscaping, the other kilns, and before so much more.
It’s a good reminder of how far we have come. And how long things take when your on the pay as you go plan and doing most of the work yourself.
Good medicine for someone who never feels like they get enough done in a day. A good reminder that the days add up to something special if you just keep showing up and plugging along.

I’ll be honest… installing a 13 foot tall chimney monument in a Madison County field during the middle of January isn’t exactly what I had planned on doing…. but I’m making the most of it. The best thing is that I don’t get cell reception, so I can ignore the world and just focus on the project.
We got bricks laid just path the fireplace today. I pushed as hard as I could.
Then the cold rolled in hard.
We had to use the weed burner to try and dry out the clay/sand mortar at the end of the day. And then we covered the whole thing in straw bails to try and stop it from freezing so bad. No work tomorrow. The temperature is supposed to be a height of 20 Fahrenheit. Too cold for brick laying that’s for sure.

Sometimes it feels hard to explain with words how important this work is too me. Hopefully this video helps.
If I was too say something, it would be that this is the most significant work I’ve made in my career to this point.
I hope people can recognize that.
I hope they know there is a reason why I’ve been waking up before the sun for days now to move everything to this field.
It’s because I care. It’s because this matters, even though it might seem insane, it matters more than they will probably ever know.
If anyone needs me or wants to help. Just come out. We will be laying bricks all day. My phone doesn’t work on site. Which is nice.
