The North Carolina kiln tour continues…even on my “dayoff” I couldn’t resist visiting my friends and neighbors @eastforkpottery . This is an image of @alexmatisse and apprentice @hollomoncook blowing salt into the woodkiln at the end of the 4 day firing with a modified leaf blower. #eastforkpottery #saltfire #saltglaze #woodkiln #kilntour #woodfire #woodkiln #apotterslife #community

Sketches of Asian pots from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York by Ben Owen Sr. during the 1920’s when he was working with the Busbees to redesign the type of ware that Jugtown was making to appeal to a new market of buyers. This is a really great example of how some of the old pottery making families shifted and evolved what they were making from larger and more agrarian based forms to new shapes and surfaces that allowed them to continue being successful in a changing world. This sketch hangs in the studio of @benowenpottery. I like to see it as a reminder that we must always be doing this. Changing and evolving as makers to meet a ever changing world. Traditions must be living to continue being relevant. #livingtradition #ncpottery #ncfolk #benowen #seagrove #ceramics #community #apotterslife #amakersstory

I had a great visit with Ben Owen yesterday talking wild clays, kilns, and marketing. Heres Ben in front of his chamber climbing kiln at his pottery in Seagrove, which is on the same site that his grandad established after he left Jugtown. #benowen #ncpottery #kilntour #seagrove #adventure #apotterslife

Such a fabulous surprise visit with my longtime friend Shozo Michikawa and his wife, who were being toured around Seagrove by my buddy Warner and visiting with Takaro and Hitomi Shibata. David Stuempfle and I were able to catch up with them as they were finishing breakfast and had a great visit around the table. Shozo will be in the area working with Judith Duff and doing a special exhibition at Judith’s home gallery on May 18th. Check out http://www.judithduff.com/events.htm for more details. #shozomichikawa #japanesepotter #friendsfromjapan #community #ceramics #adventure #apotterslife

Great times filming yesterday with Matt and Ted Lee of @theleebros for their upcoming TV adventure series “Southern Uncovered” about food and culture in the south. These guys are great storytellers and ambassadors for southern culture within a lot of energy. It was great to get them out digging some clay and talking about parallels between food and pottery. I’m also pretty excited that my truck, old boy, is gonna be on TV. #theleebros #southernculture #adventure #apotterslife
