Welcome to North Carolina Marian Glebes. It felt like a fitting start to our Building Community project to begin with a salvaged brick pathway in the garden. We are off to a great start and the best is still to come. With @thingsonshelves and @msemilypie #buildingcommunityproject #buildingcommunity #workinginthegarden #apotterslife #community

Last summer I started planning the most ambitious version of the building community project to date with my friend and collaborator @thingsonshelves. 9 days ago I learned that I was not awarded the grant to fund this project. It was devastating. A truly crushing blow to my dreams. The thing about this project is that it’s unstoppable. We are in way to deep to turn back now, regardless of whether I can afford to do it or not, I will do it and it will happen. I believe in this thing… Even if a panel of 4 judges don’t. Sometimes you just have to take your shots where you can and sort it out later. Since then I’ve been slowly recovering from my disappointment. Realizing that I am supported in many ways by many people. My visit with Steve at the brick plant helped a lot. He’s amongst the most generous and helpful human beings I’ve ever met. Just being there turned my anxiety back into excitement. I need to be excited for this to work. In my life I often say that relationships are my greatest resource. My connections with people in this world are what have taken me to where I am today. It’s never been about money. Social capital is my tender of choice. I guess it’s only fitting that this project wouldn’t be any different. Onward. Let’s do this!!! #buildingcommunityproject #buildingcommunity #communitybrick #communitybrickproject #community #apotterslife #joshcopuspottery #joshcopus #ceramics #brick

The COMMUNITY bricks are starting to track their destinations all across the country. @armandominjarez reports that his brick has arrived in Wichita. Anyone receiving a brick please post an image and tag @joshcopuspottery and #communitybrick and #buildingcommunityproject. I would love to see their new surroundings. #communitybrickproject #community #buildingcommunity #apotterslife

I’ve been think a lot about @watershedceramics this morning and the things that places like it offer us. The time to think creatively, the space to explore, make connections, and share your work with your peers. Eat good food, swim in ponds, and sit around fires late into the night. These are just some of the things this place gives to us. I’ve also been meditating on what we give to these places. Our energy, enthusiasm, our work… Without these things places like Watershed are empty, they are just spaces needing to be filled…it is people that make it what it is. People are the greatest resource and asset. It is our job to fill these spaces with energy. I’ve been thinking about my responsibility within that relationship… As someone who accepts what is offered but also gives something in return. I gave Watershed my energy. That was my offering. I left behind these bricks as a reminder of that energy. As an artifact of that experience. These bricks are my gift. I hope to share them with as many of you as possible. #buildingcommunityproject #buildingcommunity #communitybrick #communitybuilding #communitybrickproject #apotterslife #community #ceramics

Sending out another shipment of COMMUNITY bricks fro the Shelburne Falls Post Office. 8 years ago I sent a brick to this Post Office for Mary Baringer, and she said they still talk about it her small New England village… So I figured we would give them something to talk about for the next 8 years. #communitybrickproject #communitybuilding #buildingcommunity #buildingcommunityproject #community #ceramics #apotterslife
