This is Jonesie. He’s the pit boss at Stancills. He’s been working there for 30 odd years. He loaded our clay. I think he’s awesome. #jonesiethepitboss #stancills #stancillsclay #buildingcommunity #buildingcommunityproject #buildingcommunitybaltimore #communitybrick #communitybrickproject #ceramics #wildclay #localmaterials #localclay

This is Stancills inc. Originally founded as a sand mine, Stancills now deals in a whole variety of aggregates and custom soil blending services. Generally when you are mining sand, clay is usually in the mix somewhere in the strata and they have a couple really nice stockpiles put aside of good quality wild clay. I’ve know about this place since they held a ceramics exhibition in the mine and it was written about in the @thestudiopotter journal in 2006. A number of my friends were involved in that show and Terry Stancill and his daughter Emlyn have been a great asset to the ceramics community for many years. I also wrote an article in that same Studio Potter edition in 2006 and Stancills has been on my list of places to visit ever since. @thingsonshelves and I had a great visit and tour with Terry today and are excited that we will be using their clay in our collaboration here in Baltimore. Thank you very much Stancills family for all the generosity and kindness you showed us today. Building Community Baltimore is off to a great start. #stancills #stancillsclay #wildclay #localclay #communitybrickproject #buildingcommunity #buildingcommunitybaltimore #buildingcommunityproject #communitybrick #apotterslife
