Wild clay!!!!
On our first day we went into the mountains to dig materials. We then “built” some rudimentary “equipment” and systems to crush, screen and blend the clay. In 2 days we had it ready to work with. We made a body using half wild clay and half commercial materials. Everyone is really excited to give it a try. @archie_bray @culturalconfluencewoodfire

Great first day of the Cultural Confluences Symposium collecting wild materials with @woodfirelust
It was wonderful to get out a see some of Montana and feel this place and what it can inspire.
One of the things I’ve always appreciated about wild clay prospecting is how much enthusiasm it can inspire in people. I think the looks on people’s faces in these images really tell the story.

One of my favorite things about working with wild clays, with clays that are alive, is when grass grows out of the things I make with them. I found this sprout today as I was moving the finished bricks to their drying site. It felt like a guide post. A marker reminding me that I am on the right path. That I am doing the work I am meant to do in this world. “Know that you have touched the truth. Begin again. The end is where we start from” I left the factory early this night to catch the ball game. I don’t know who made this brick… It doesn’t matter… The message is still the same. #touchthetruth #wildclay #localmaterials #baltimoreMCBF #buildingcommunitybaltimore #buildingcommunityproject #buildingcommunity #communitybrickproject #communitybrick #community

This is Jonesie. He’s the pit boss at Stancills. He’s been working there for 30 odd years. He loaded our clay. I think he’s awesome. #jonesiethepitboss #stancills #stancillsclay #buildingcommunity #buildingcommunityproject #buildingcommunitybaltimore #communitybrick #communitybrickproject #ceramics #wildclay #localmaterials #localclay
