Jamming in the jail with @galenholland
We’ve been having a steady stream of our creative friends come and use the space recently.
It’s been awesome to hear such great music emitting out of the jail and to see the space used in such a positive way.

It was such an honor to interview John Ledford and Randy Bradford in the jail today. John was the Sheriff of Madison County from 1998-2009 and Randy was his chief deputy during that time. They had LOTS OF STORIES ABOUT THE OLD JAIL. It was a truly fascinating day.
In this image John and Randy show Josh where inmates tried to escaped through the ceiling at one point. There is still a patch left over from their attempt.

We’ve officially launched the video component of the Old Marshall Jail Brick Project. Emily has the camera set up today and tomorrow early evening.
We are collecting stories about the jail and the people who spent time here.
If you have something to say or know someone who does, come on down or get in touch with us.
This is an important part of this project and we would appreciate people in Madison county spreading the word about it. Any story is appreciated. We would like to hear from both sides of the bars.
The history of this place is important to us and we are working hard to record it before it is lost.

The Big House Brick Factory will be open tomorrow, Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th from 11-7.
Come be a part of the Old Marshall Jail Brick Project. Make a brick and write whatever you think is important to say on it. All bricks will become part of a monument to the people of this world that will be permanently installed at the jail building.
Come check it out!

I’m moving most of my posts about the old Marshall Jail to our new feed @oldmarshalljail but I couldn’t resist this one of legendary Sheriff Jesse James Bailey busting up stills in from of the jail during his term as Sheriff of Madison County from 1920-22.
Photo is courtesy of the good folks at the Liston B. Ramsey Center for Regional Studies at Mars Hill University.

We started a new account specifically for the jail (@oldmarshalljail)… it’s gonna be a lot of images of the renovation… like this one of @carolinaflowers_ pulling out old electrical wires… but it will also be filled with interesting images of the buildings history and the people who spent time here (on both sides of the bars)
We think this project is unique and we want to share it with you. It seems best that it be it’s own thing or my feed is going to fill up with jail photos (cause it’s kinda the most exciting thing I’m doing right now). Check it out.
