We’ve officially launched the video component of the Old Marshall Jail Brick Project. Emily has the camera set up today and tomorrow early evening.
We are collecting stories about the jail and the people who spent time here.
If you have something to say or know someone who does, come on down or get in touch with us.
This is an important part of this project and we would appreciate people in Madison county spreading the word about it. Any story is appreciated. We would like to hear from both sides of the bars.
The history of this place is important to us and we are working hard to record it before it is lost.

The Big House Brick Factory will be open tomorrow, Friday the 18th and Saturday the 19th from 11-7.
Come be a part of the Old Marshall Jail Brick Project. Make a brick and write whatever you think is important to say on it. All bricks will become part of a monument to the people of this world that will be permanently installed at the jail building.
Come check it out!

As someone who was raised in Virginia and cares deeply about that place and it’s history… and recognizes the complicated aspects of that history… I stand fully and 100% against white supremacists and nazis. Completely.
We are making a monument right now in my home of Marshall. It’s a monument to the people of this world. It’s a monument about this worlds history, the current events of our time and our hopes for the future. It’s a monument to human experiences, to the feelings and expressions of the residents of this planet. Most importantly it’s a monument about love, inclusion, and the strength of community.
We will be open and making bricks this coming Friday and Saturday from 11-7 for anyone who has something to say. Please make your voices heard. All are welcome.

I’m moving most of my posts about the old Marshall Jail to our new feed @oldmarshalljail but I couldn’t resist this one of legendary Sheriff Jesse James Bailey busting up stills in from of the jail during his term as Sheriff of Madison County from 1920-22.
